Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan Defies Kogi Government’s Ban, Vows to Proceed with Sallah Visit
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, has reaffirmed her commitment to visit her constituency for the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, despite the Kogi State government’s ban on public gatherings.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement released early Tuesday, the senator dismissed circulating rumors suggesting she had canceled the visit, emphasizing that her plans would continue as scheduled. The statement also urged her supporters to disregard speculations about the visit’s cancellation.
“The senator’s Sallah visit will proceed as planned,” the statement clarified, highlighting that there had been no official communication from her office regarding any changes to the event. It further stressed Akpoti-Uduaghan’s commitment to her role as a representative, underlining her desire to promote unity and cooperation within her constituency.
Despite rising security concerns in the state, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s office assured the public that all necessary measures were in place to ensure the visit’s success. She extended a warm invitation to community members to join her in celebrating the occasion.
However, her visit comes at a time when Kogi State is grappling with security challenges. Just hours before the senator’s confirmation, the state government, through its Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, announced a ban on public rallies due to escalating security risks. This move follows intelligence reports indicating potential violent gatherings disguised as political and religious protests. The situation was further compounded by recent deadly incidents in Kogi West.
Fanwo emphasized the government’s concerns over public safety, stating that the ban was crucial to prevent any disturbances that could destabilize the state.
