The Egbo Egbo Bassey House, recognized as a National Monument since 1959, has been the subject of detailed architectural research and documentation since March 2024, funded by the Gerda Henkel Stiftung.
Olugbile Holloway, the Director-General of the NCMM, expressed his admiration for the thoroughness and dedication of the project team. He thanked Dr. Olukoya and acknowledged Gerda Henkel Stiftung for its unwavering support in preserving Nigeria’s cultural heritage. Holloway hopes that the partnership will continue to flourish, enabling more heritage sites across the country to receive necessary attention and restoration.
Dr. Olukoya, in presenting the model, referred to it as “the Bible of Egbo Egbo Bassey House,” a symbol of the extensive research and documentation invested in the project. He also unveiled a life-like model of the monument, providing the NCMM with a tangible representation of the site’s historical and architectural significance.
Olukoya expressed gratitude to Gerda Henkel Stiftung for its pivotal role in the success of the project and shared that an application for the stabilization of the Egbo Egbo Bassey House had been successful. He also announced that the next phase of restoration would soon commence, further reinforcing the monument’s historical importance while laying the groundwork for future conservation efforts.
The event marked a significant milestone in the journey to protect and preserve Nigeria’s rich heritage, with more initiatives planned for the future.
