Edo Election Tribunal: APC Confident of Victory Amidst Tension

Tenebe urged party members to remain calm, expressing trust in the judiciary’s ability to deliver justice. He praised the party’s legal team for their diligent efforts and maintained that the party was hopeful of a positive outcome.
Addressing the recent violence in Uromi, Tenebe commended Governor Okpebholo for his swift response, while accusing members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of being responsible for the killings. According to Tenebe, the attacks were a deliberate attempt by the PDP to create chaos and pressure President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Edo State, driven by their fear of losing at the tribunal.
Tenebe claimed that the PDP had allegedly recruited former members of the disbanded Edo State Security Network to execute violent acts, including the unrest in Uromi, in a bid to manipulate public perception and sway the tribunal’s judgment. He further alleged that the PDP’s plan included leveraging the tribunal’s composition, as two of the three judges are from the northern region, to create ethnic and regional tension.
Tenebe also criticized the PDP’s reaction to Governor Okpebholo’s visit to Kano State, where he offered condolences to affected families, labeling it as an attempt to mislead the public about the governor’s commitment to peace.
Additionally, Tenebe called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to collaborate with international embassies to facilitate the extradition of PDP members allegedly involved in instigating violence from abroad. He emphasized that terrorism and attacks against national peace would not be tolerated, urging security agencies to take decisive action against identified suspects.
The APC chairman reaffirmed that no amount of blackmail or intimidation would prevent Governor Okpebholo from securing his mandate at the tribunal. He concluded by declaring the party’s unwavering commitment to democracy, justice, and the rule of law, emphasizing that Edo State would emerge stronger despite the challenges.
