Lagos State Reaffirms Legality of Speed Limit Regulations
The Lagos State Government (LASG) has reaffirmed the legality of speed limit regulations in the state, urging motorists to comply for the safety of all road users. The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, made this known in a statement issued by Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola, Deputy Director of Public Affairs at the Ministry of Transportation.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The government’s stance comes in response to public concerns about the enforcement of speed limits on selected roads within the state. According to Osiyemi, the legal basis for imposing penalties on motorists who exceed speed limits is derived from Section 28(2)(a) of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law (2018).
Osiyemi further clarified that the Ministry of Transportation has the exclusive authority to determine the size, color, and type of traffic signs in Lagos, ensuring consistency with global best practices.
He emphasized that speed limit cameras, installed after comprehensive studies, are currently operational only on Alapere Road and Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way. The Commissioner added that further expansion to other areas is under consideration, subject to ongoing reviews.
Osiyemi also addressed misinformation regarding the speed limit operation, advising the public to obtain accurate information from official channels, including the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation website and verified social media handles.
The primary goal of the speed limit regulations and camera installations is to safeguard the lives of both motorists and commuters by promoting responsible driving practices.
