Tragic Road Accident Claims Nine Lives in Katsina

Confirming the accident in a statement on Sunday, the Katsina State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Aliyu Ma’aji, disclosed that nine passengers lost their lives at the scene, while eleven others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
According to preliminary findings, the crash was caused by excessive speed, leading to a loss of control. The FRSC commander cautioned drivers to be more mindful, particularly during festive periods, urging them to avoid speeding, overloading, and reckless driving. Despite ongoing efforts by the state government to improve road infrastructure, he noted that driver negligence remains a significant cause of fatal accidents in Katsina.
In a related development, the Kano State Police Command has dismissed circulating reports of an attack on an 18-seater bus and the alleged killing of its passengers. The command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, clarified on Saturday that the report was false and should be disregarded. He assured the public that an investigation is underway to identify the source of the fake news, stressing the need to avoid spreading unverified information that could incite panic and unrest.
SP Kiyawa emphasized the police command’s dedication to upholding law and order, ensuring public safety, and maintaining harmony among communities in the state. He warned that those responsible for spreading false information would face appropriate legal consequences.
