Peter Obi Visits Onitsha Fire Sites, Calls for Support for Affected Traders
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, visited the sites of two devastating fire incidents at the Electronics Market Plaza on Iweka Road and a warehouse at Ifejirika Street, Main Market, Onitsha, Anambra State. The warehouse fire, which started early on Friday morning, raged for hours before the Anambra State Fire Service brought it under control. Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, expressed deep concern for the traders who lost their livelihoods in the fires. He pledged to support the victims in his own way and called on government bodies, individuals, and financial institutions to step in and provide aid. He emphasized that moments like this call for unity and collective action to restore hope and rebuild lives.
While visiting the fire sites, Obi met privately with the market leaders and some of the most affected traders. He commended the Anambra State Fire Service for their swift response despite challenges. One of the affected traders, Jeremiah Nwabueze, expressed gratitude for Obi’s visit, which he described as a source of comfort and solidarity during the difficult time.
