Northern CAN Congratulates Muslims, Condemns Uromi Killings

In a joint statement issued on Sunday in Kaduna, signed by Rev. John Hayab, Chairman of CAN, and Bishop Mohammed Naga, Secretary-General, the group emphasized the spiritual significance of Ramadan, noting that the teachings from the Holy Books are deeply rewarding for all who embrace them.

However, the association also expressed deep sorrow over the tragic killing of 16 travelers in Uromi, Edo State, condemning the act of violence in the strongest terms. CAN stated that the loss is unbearable for the families of the victims, extending condolences and prayers for comfort, strength, and solace during this painful period. The group also highlighted the need for unity in the face of such a heinous act, urging Nigerians to come together to demand justice for the victims.

The statement further called on security agencies and the governments of Edo State and the Federal Government to ensure thorough and transparent investigations into the killings and to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Additionally, CAN appealed to those calling for retaliatory actions to reconsider, stressing that revenge would only escalate the cycle of violence, resulting in further suffering for the innocent. The association urged Nigerians to reject stereotypes based on religion, ethnicity, or region, advocating for justice and unity to build a more peaceful society for all.
