Rurum Demands Justice for Slain Hausa Travelers in Edo State

Federal lawmaker, Rt. Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of Hausa travelers in Uromi, Edo State, calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to ensure justice for the victims. The travelers, mostly Hausa hunters on their way to Kano for the Sallah celebrations, were allegedly attacked by members of the Edo State Security Corps and local vigilantes. Rurum, who represents Rano, Kibiya, and Bunkure Federal Constituency, described the killings as “barbaric and unjustifiable” and pointed out that such attacks are signs of growing hostility against Northerners in parts of the country. He emphasized that the continued violence against innocent Northerners in the South-East and South-South regions must not go unaddressed.

The lawmaker urged the federal government and security agencies to take swift action to end these senseless attacks and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice. He also extended condolences to the victims’ families, expressing solidarity with the grieving communities, especially in Kano State, and called for measures to protect the rights and lives of all Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic or religious background.
