Osun Governor Relaxes Curfew in Violence-Affected Communities, Imposes 17-Hour Restriction
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has announced a reduction in the previously imposed 24-hour curfew on Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin communities, which recently experienced violent communal clashes. According to a statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the curfew relaxation took effect on Friday, March 28, 2025, and will remain in place until further notice. This decision aims to ease the hardship faced by residents while maintaining peace in the affected areas.
The communal violence initially erupted due to boundary disputes between the Ifon and Ilobu communities, spreading to Erin Osun the following day. The clashes led to casualties, property destruction, and the displacement of many residents, some of whom fled to nearby towns like Okinni, Osogbo, and Ido Osun.
In response to the escalating violence, the state government initially imposed a 12-hour curfew, later extended to 24 hours, to curb hostilities. Governor Adeleke’s decision to ease the curfew comes after a relative calm was observed in the area.
The governor praised the reduction in violence but expressed concern over reports of a recent killing, for which an arrest has been made. He warned that anyone found responsible for inciting violence would face the full wrath of the law.
In addition to relaxing the curfew, Governor Adeleke directed a joint security task force to maintain round-the-clock surveillance to prevent further lawlessness. He also instructed the state’s emergency agency to increase support for displaced residents.
Governor Adeleke reiterated his commitment to peace and warned that any act of violence would not be tolerated, emphasizing that the safety and well-being of the affected communities remain a top priority.
