LagRide Drivers Threaten Boycott Over Alleged Harassment by Operators
Drivers under the government-backed ride-hailing platform, LagRide, have threatened to stop providing their services due to alleged harassment by the platform’s operators. The Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON) disclosed this on Thursday through its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Steven Iwindoye, in Ikeja.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The dispute arose after LagRide accused some drivers of discouraging riders from using the app while promoting rival platforms like InDrive and Bolt. The company also claimed that these drivers were refusing to take trips without valid reasons and accepting cash payments instead of processing fares through the app, violating company policies.
To enforce compliance, LagRide warned that non-compliant drivers could face arrest by Lagos State Task Force officials, with possible penalties including impoundment of vehicles.
In response, Iwindoye warned LagRide management against taking drastic actions such as impounding vehicles, stating that it could escalate tensions. He also criticized the company for disabling the in-app cash payment option, forcing drivers to rely on offline negotiations. Additionally, he highlighted that despite several levies imposed by CIG Motors, which operates LagRide, the company does not cover vehicle maintenance or repairs.
The ongoing crisis follows CIG Motors’ takeover of LagRide management in March, shortly after the state government’s partnership with Zenolynk Technology Ltd ended. LagRide continues to face driver protests over unresolved app-related issues barely a month into its new management.
