The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that he played a key role in Atiku Abubakar’s loss in the 2023 presidential election and vowed to ensure his defeat again in future contests.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Ireporter News, Atiku, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), recently addressed the controversy surrounding his decision to exclude Wike as his running mate, stating that he had no regrets.

During an interview on Untold Stories with Adesuwa Giwa-Osagie, Atiku explained that his choice was based on party consultations, dismissing claims that overlooking Wike cost him the election.

In response, Wike, through his media aide Lere Olayinka, insisted he had no regrets about Atiku’s defeat, posting on (formerly Twitter):

“Two years after making @OfficialPDPNig lose a presidential election it could have won, @atiku is still explaining why he didn’t pick @GovWike as his running mate. Someone should tell our serial presidential election contester that Wike also has no regret for ensuring his defeat—and will make sure he fails again and again.”

Wike was a central figure in the PDP’s internal crisis, leading a faction that opposed Atiku’s candidacy and ultimately backed President Bola Tinubu in 2023.

With Atiku considering another presidential bid in 2027, the political rift between the two former allies appears far from over.

A Strong Endorsement for Donald Duke

  • Surpassing Competitors: Speaking during an interview, Baba-Ahmed confidently stated that, candidate for candidate, Donald Duke outperforms all other presidential contenders currently in the political space.

  • Integrity and Capability: He described Duke as part of a visionary leadership blueprint aimed at thinking critically, restoring national dignity, exhibiting true integrity, and offering young Nigerians a leadership style they can genuinely look up to.

The Strategic Push for an Opposition Coalition

Despite possessing what he considers the superior candidate, Baba-Ahmed explained why the party is actively championing a broader political alliance:

  • Consensus Over Ego: The PRP chairman emphasized that the party’s push for a mega-coalition is driven by consensus and constitutional processes rather than forcing Duke’s candidacy through on profile strength alone.

  • Defeating Fault Lines: Framing the 2027 election as a critical turning point for the nation, Baba-Ahmed noted that the stakes go far beyond individual party ambitions. The coalition aims to unite likeminded opposition forces to rescue Nigeria from its current trajectory and bridge its deep fault lines.
