Prince Daniel Aboki Denies Claims of Rejection in Kannywood and Nollywood
Renowned Nigerian filmmaker, Prince Daniel Aboki, has refuted claims that he was rejected in Kannywood due to his religion or in Nollywood because of his northern background.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a public statement, the Mai Martaba director clarified that he never made such assertions in any interview. He attributed the misunderstanding to comments he made during the Nollywood in Hollywood event in Los Angeles.
Aboki explained that his remarks were intended to highlight the structural segmentation within Nigeria’s film industry and the challenges of navigating both Kannywood and Nollywood.
“For clarity, Kannywood has never rejected me based on ethnicity or religion. In fact, it has been my strongest pillar of support as a filmmaker,” he emphasized.
He noted that while his film was sometimes categorized as Nollywood by Kannywood practitioners and vice versa, this was never due to discrimination.
Aboki expressed gratitude to Kannywood’s filmmakers and audience for their unwavering support during Mai Martaba’s cinema run. He reaffirmed his commitment to advancing Kannywood, collaborating with industry veterans, and showcasing northern stories on a global scale.
Additionally, he reiterated his dedication to creating job opportunities for young people and challenging negative stereotypes about Northern Nigeria.
“I remain committed to working alongside my colleagues and Kannywood’s founding fathers to elevate the industry—telling our stories to the world and providing employment opportunities for our youth,” he stated.
