Rivers Crisis Escalates: Sara-Igbe Vows To Fight Any Attempt To Remove FubaraAmid the dismissal of major cases against him by the Supreme Court, embattled Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, faces a new legal hurdle involving the defection of 27 lawmakers to the APC. Notably, this defection issue was not part of the consolidated Supreme Court cases, leaving the matter unresolved.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Legal experts suggest that the court cannot rule on issues not presented before it, and the defection case continues in the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt.

This ongoing uncertainty raises fears among lawmakers, as Fubara’s challenge could potentially make them illegitimate, threatening their control over the Assembly. Consequently, some speculate that these lawmakers might accelerate efforts to impeach Fubara in a bid to block the defection case from reaching a final ruling.

Fubara’s ally, Anabs Sara-Igbe, has expressed confidence in the governor’s ability to resist impeachment. In a recent interview, Sara-Igbe emphasized, “If Amaewhule and his allies attempt to remove the governor, there will be resistance.”

Meanwhile, Benjamin Okaba of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) advised waiting for a legal interpretation of the Supreme Court’s judgment before taking further action. On the other hand, APC chieftain Eze Chukwuemeka Eze expressed skepticism about Fubara’s chances, saying only divine intervention could save him.

An anonymous Ogoni political source hinted that Fubara might consider defecting to the APC in exchange for protection and support for the 2027 election. In a strategic move, Fubara has directed Rivers State’s 23 local government chairmen to contest the October 5 council elections under the Action Peoples Party (APP), signaling a shift in his political base.
