During the visit to Chief Clark’s Abuja residence, which had already received over a thousand visitors, the Minister was joined by former President Goodluck Jonathan, who also came to pay his respects.
In his tribute, Engr. Momoh extolled the virtues of the late elder statesman, describing him as a relentless advocate for justice, equity, and the rights of the common man. Reflecting on his last meeting with Chief Clark two weeks before his passing, the Minister noted that despite signs of slowing down, Chief Clark’s voice remained unwavering in his commitment to Nigeria.
“Even as his strength waned, his voice remained strong. He kept reminding me of one thing—his love for Nigeria,” the Minister recounted.
The National Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Amb. Dr. Godknows Boladei Igali, OON, also reflected on Chief Clark’s final moments, stating that his body system simply shut down, but he never suffered pain. His last words were simple, yet profound—‘I love Nigeria, I love Nigeria’.
Born in 1927, Chief Edwin Clark was a stalwart advocate for Nigeria’s unity and resource control. He served as Commissioner for Education and Finance in the defunct Mid-Western Region, leaving an indelible mark on national development. As the leader of PANDEF, he remained a strong voice for the Niger Delta and was revered for his political mentorship and advocacy.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan described his passing as “a great loss, not only to the Ijaw Nation but to Nigeria as a whole.”
With his demise, the nation bids farewell to a statesman whose legacy of advocacy and patriotism will continue to inspire generations.

In his acceptance speech, Agbeluyi expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the organization, vowing to collaborate closely with fellow executives and stakeholders to advance the Union’s objectives. He highlighted his commitment to working on regional partnerships that will support professionalism in the tax systems of WAUTI’s member states.
