Defection Comes At A Cost!” – Gov. Fubara Declares Amaewhule, 26 Lawmakers Have Lost Their Seats Reason For His Actions

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reiterated that his administration will not recognize the Martin Amaewhule-led faction of the state House of Assembly, despite appeals from the Rivers National Assembly Caucus.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

During a visit to Amaewhule in Port Harcourt on Monday, the caucus urged Fubara to uphold the Court of Appeal’s ruling, which affirmed Amaewhule and 26 other lawmakers as the legitimate representatives of the House.

In a statement signed by Kingsley Chinda, Senator Barinada Mpigi, and Dumnamene Dekor, the lawmakers accused Fubara of distorting facts and of enlisting Senior Advocate Femi Falana to misrepresent court rulings.

The lawmakers stated:
“We urge Mr. Femi Falana (SAN) to stop misinterpreting court judgments. It is unfortunate that a senior lawyer of his stature is promoting falsehoods from non-lawyers and political opportunists.”

They also claimed that Falana misrepresented the ruling of Justice J.K. Omotosho and the alleged defection of the 27 lawmakers, which they assert never occurred.

“Falana misrepresented the judgment dates of Justice Omotosho and the purported defection, intending to mislead the public. The judgment, which was upheld by both the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, is final and irreversible. Any action recognizing any other group as the Rivers State House of Assembly would be in contempt of the Supreme Court ruling,” they added.

In response, Amaewhule stated:
“The governor should know that we are vigilant. We are aware of the billions of taxpayer funds that remain unaccounted for. A reckoning day is coming.”

Ekiti PDP Holds Congress Despite Court Restraining Order

The Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson, countered the claims, insisting that Amaewhule’s faction ceased to be lawmakers after defecting from the PDP to APC on December 11, 2023. Johnson dismissed the lawmakers’ allegations as misleading.

“The judgment of Justice Omotosho, affirmed by the Court of Appeal, does not alter the status of Martin Amaewhule and his group as former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly,” Johnson stated.

Barely a year after its inauguration in Akwa Ibom State, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been plunged into a deep factional crisis.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Multiple factions are now locked in a struggle for control of the party, leaving members uncertain about the legitimate leadership structure.

One faction is led by John Akpanudodehe, a former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while another is headed by the embattled state chairman, Dick Duke.

Although the leader of a third faction could not be immediately confirmed, findings indicate that another group also exists within the party.

Sources further suggest that the Akpanudodehe-led faction is seeking to remove the current chairman through a recently held congress that has sparked controversy.

In response, Dick Duke convened a stakeholders’ meeting over the weekend, where he rejected the legitimacy of the said congress.

He said the party had formally written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to distance itself from the exercise, citing a subsisting court order.

According to him, his tenure as state chairman is still valid until May, and any congress conducted before then would be unlawful.

Duke added that the party would only proceed with proper congresses after the expiration of his tenure and the resolution of legal issues, in line with due process.
