NDDC MD Seat Secure! Minister Abubakar Momoh Slams Rumors, Issues Stern Warning (Video)....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a bold and decisive announcement, the Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh FNSE, has firmly quashed rumors regarding the leadership of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), asserting unequivocally that the Managing Director (MD) position is not vacant.

Speaking at the inauguration of the South East and North West Development Boards, the Minister delivered a strong warning to critics, cautioning against unnecessary distractions that could hinder the commission’s developmental efforts. He underscored that the current NDDC board remains fully intact and committed to its mandate, with no plans for disbandment.

Addressing claims that the MD had overstayed his tenure, Momoh clarified that the MD’s term was officially renewed for another four years, effective October 2023. He stressed that only President Bola Ahmed Tinubu holds the authority to terminate appointments and advised those seeking changes to channel their concerns to the Presidency rather than spreading false information.

The Minister drew a comparison to the North East Development Commission (NEDC), noting that its leadership was similarly renewed without controversy, highlighting the importance of leadership stability in achieving long-term developmental goals.

Momoh also shed light on the succession process for the MD role, firmly stating that after Bayelsa’s tenure, leadership must rotate among the nine Niger Delta states, as stipulated by the NDDC Act. He made it crystal clear that it is not Delta State’s turn to produce the next MD, effectively shutting down any premature power struggles from interested parties.

Praising the achievements of the current NDDC board, the Minister warned that political infighting and confusion could derail the progress being made in the Niger Delta. He emphasized the need for unity and focus to ensure the commission continues delivering impactful projects to uplift the region.

Momoh’s statement served as a powerful rebuttal to all speculations, leaving no doubt about the current leadership’s legitimacy. The onus is now on stakeholders to either respect this directive or persist in pursuing their personal agendas, risking the commission’s developmental progress.

Human rights lawyer Frank Tietie has criticized the nomination and subsequent confirmation of Professor Abayomi Fasina, the former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, as a non-career ambassador designate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Prior to his confirmation, a coalition of civil society organizations protested at the National Assembly on July 7, 2026, opposing Fasina’s nomination due to pending court cases involving allegations of sexual harassment, human rights violations, and victimization.

  • Despite these protests, the Nigerian Senate officially confirmed Fasina’s appointment as a non-career ambassador on Thursday.

Frank Tietie’s Position

  • During an interview on ARISE Television, Tietie argued that nominating an individual with such “baggage” was a mistake, emphasizing that ambassadors represent Nigeria in the same capacity as the President.

  • Tietie stated that the government should have sent the “right signals” by avoiding such controversial appointments, especially given the current state of governance.

  • He argued that even in the absence of a final court judgment, the allegations themselves have “tainted” Fasina’s reputation, and the Senate should have delayed the confirmation until the legal matters were resolved.

  • Tietie also suggested that the National Assembly’s decision overlooks significant social changes regarding how such allegations are now viewed by society.
