EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arrests, revealing that the total amount allegedly misappropriated by the officials was ₦1,294,337,676.53. The Katsina state government had submitted a petition to the anti-corruption agency, accusing the suspects of conspiring to divert the funds.
According to Oyewale, the funds were meant for the state government, sourced from the World Health Organization (WHO), Médecins Sans Frontières, and the Alliance for International Medical Action (ALIMA). Preliminary investigations indicated that Rabiu Abdullahi, a former Director of Collections and current Permanent Secretary of the Board, authorized the opening of a bank account under the name ‘BOIRS’ at Sterling Bank, with Sanusi Mohammed Yaro and Ibrahim M. Kofar Soro as sole signatories.
The EFCC’s investigation also revealed that the account was used to channel the misappropriated funds to NADIKKO General Suppliers, a company owned by Nura Lawal Kofar Sauri, an Assistant Director of Career Skills/Staff Welfare at the Board. The funds were allegedly laundered through this company, with traces leading to various bank accounts linked to the suspects.
The arrested officials have been detained at the Kano Zonal Command, and will be charged in court once the investigation is concluded.
