In a statement issued on Saturday, OSSIEC Chairman, Hashim Abioye, firmly dismissed claims of unpreparedness, emphasizing that the commission has adhered to its established timeline and activity schedule.

“The amended notice and adjusted timetable issued by the Commission provide ample time for political parties to prepare for the elections,” Abioye stated.

He highlighted several steps in the commission’s preparations, including the appointment of Electoral Officers (EOs) and Assistant Electoral Officers (AEOs) across all local governments, as well as special appointments for efficiency. The chairman also pointed out that training sessions, retreats, and seminars had been organized for staff involved in the electoral process.

Abioye further detailed the commission’s innovative approach, citing the adoption of a paperless, online recruitment process for ad-hoc staff, powered by state-of-the-art IT facilities to eliminate security risks and inefficiencies.

He reassured the public of the commission’s commitment to a smooth electoral process, mentioning that political campaigns were already underway and logistical arrangements were in place.

“We have made adequate preparations, and there will be no disappointments by God’s grace,” Abioye declared.

He also addressed security concerns, acknowledging the sensitive nature of elections and emphasizing the need for heightened security measures. OSSIEC has launched a radio and television program, OSSIEC Half Hour, to enhance public engagement and information dissemination.

Looking ahead, Abioye confirmed that physical campaigns, consultations, and stakeholder engagements would take place leading up to the elections. He encouraged the public to verify OSSIEC’s activities through its website and official platforms.

With final steps like the shortlisting and training of ad-hoc staff left to complete, Abioye expressed confidence in the commission’s ability to deliver a credible election. “We are ready, and nothing is stopping us, Insha Allah,” he concluded.
