This disclosure was made by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, during a visit to Abia State on Thursday.

Onyejeocha emphasized that this change aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s pledge to ensure timely reviews of the minimum wage, with the next review scheduled in less than two years.

“We will not allow the review of the minimum wage to be delayed indefinitely. It was once every five years, but now it will be reviewed every three years, and the next review will occur in less than two years,” Onyejeocha said.

The announcement follows a recent call by the Trade Union Congress for annual reviews of the minimum wage to keep pace with the rising inflation rates.

Last year, President Tinubu approved a ₦70,000 minimum wage and committed to reviewing it every three years. However, Nigeria’s high inflation, which reached 34.60% in November 2024, has raised concerns about the adequacy of the current wage.
