Enugu Government Fraud Incident Not A Cybercrime, Police Confirm
The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed recent rumors about the alleged hacking of the Enugu State Government’s official bank account. In a statement to Naija News, the Police Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, explained that an investigation by the National Cyber Crime Centre (NCCC) found no evidence of hacking, instead identifying the incident as a case of procurement fraud.
The statement further revealed that a suspect had been arrested in Enugu in connection with the fraud, and the stolen funds were recovered by the state government. The police also emphasized that the Enugu State Government and other agencies have collaborated with the NCCC to implement enhanced security measures to protect their financial systems.
The police urged the public to avoid spreading misinformation and to verify news sources for credibility.

The Allegation: The survivor, Malam Babawo Tudun Nasera—whose 17-year-old brother Salim was among the deceased—stated in a video that authorities wanted the miners to halt operations, but they continued working based on instructions allegedly given by Babangida.

The Arrest and Detention: Nasera explained that the miners went to the site to earn a living to feed their families before NSCDC personnel arrested them and held them in custody for three days, allegedly refusing release efforts.
