APC Chairman Ganduje Warns Peter Obi Over Spreading Misinformation, Urges Truthfulness
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has accused 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi of libel and inciting his followers to issue death threats against APC spokesman Felix Morka.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Ganduje responded to Obi’s claims that Morka had threatened his life and family following Obi’s criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration on New Year’s Day. Obi had questioned whether he had “really crossed the line” after allegedly receiving threats from Morka’s supporters.
The allegations stemmed from a recent interview where Morka stated, “Peter Obi has crossed the line so many times, and he has what’s coming to him. Whatever he gets, he should manage it.” Obi interpreted these remarks as a threat to his safety.
Morka, however, denied threatening Obi’s life, stating that his comments had been taken out of context and calling on Obi to correct the record.
In response, Ganduje condemned Obi’s accusations as false and misleading, describing them as a deliberate attempt to stir mischief. He argued that Obi’s claims had led to online threats against Morka and his family, further accusing Obi of libeling Morka.
Ganduje emphasized that as a public figure, Obi had a duty to provide truthful information and warned that spreading falsehoods erodes public trust. He clarified that Morka’s remarks were simply a response to criticism, not a threat, and underscored that free speech, protected by Nigeria’s Constitution, should apply to everyone, including ruling party members.
The APC Chairman urged Obi to refrain from spreading misinformation and accept criticism as part of the democratic process. He also pointed out that the APC would continue to respond to false allegations with facts about the Tinubu administration.
Ganduje concluded by reaffirming the party’s commitment to democratic principles while holding opposition figures accountable when necessary.
