Trump’s Legal Team Pushes For Delay Of Sentencing As He Appeals Conviction

Published

President-elect Donald Trump has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to block his sentencing for the cover-up of hush money payments made to porn star Stormy Daniels, while he continues to appeal his conviction.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

This appeal follows a ruling from a New York State appeals court, which dismissed his request to delay the sentencing. Trump is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday.

In May, Trump was convicted of falsifying business records related to a payment to Daniels, made just before the 2016 election, to prevent her from disclosing an alleged 2006 sexual encounter. Trump is attempting to avoid punishment until after his second presidential term begins on January 20.

Trump’s legal team has filed multiple legal motions to delay the sentencing, with Judge Juan Merchan indicating that the sentence would likely not involve jail time. Trump’s lawyers argue that an immediate stay of proceedings is necessary to prevent harm to the presidency and the federal government.

The lawyers have also raised the issue of presidential immunity, seeking to extend it to Trump as a president-elect. However, their previous requests have been rejected, including by Associate Justice Ellen Gesmer earlier this week.
