Oshiomhole: APC Grateful For Wike’s Support After PDP’s ‘Free Transfer’
Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North, has compared Nyesom Wike’s support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to a football club handing over its top player to a rival club without demanding any transfer fee. He also humorously thanked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for offering its “best player” to the APC.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Oshiomhole made the remark on Friday, reflecting on Wike’s backing of the APC during the 2023 election after falling out with his party, the PDP, over the presidential ticket.
Following his support for the APC and the election victory of President Bola Tinubu, Wike was appointed as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), a move seen by many as a reward for his political allegiance.
While Wike remains a member of the PDP, he holds a prominent position in the APC government.
During a New Year luncheon in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, Oshiomhole took a jab at the PDP, likening the situation to a football club letting its best player join a rival without charging a transfer fee.
“Thank you, PDP, for giving us Nyesom Wike to help us improve Abuja. I’m not part of any football club, but I’ve heard those who support clubs like Manchester United. When you let your best player go to another club, you usually get a hefty payment,” Oshiomhole joked.
The lawmaker also hinted that the APC would prefer Wike to remain within their ranks, adding that they wouldn’t be inclined to return him to the PDP due to the positive impact he is having.
“Thanks for helping us in APC. PDP in Rivers handed you over to us without asking for a transfer fee. We may not want to give you back; in fact, we might even set up a toll gate to keep you,” Oshiomhole quipped.
