Soludo Under Fire From IPOB For Backing Politicians Opposed To Kanu’s Release

Published

on

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has criticized Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, for his recent comments suggesting that the release of Nnamdi Kanu might not end the insecurity in the South-East. Soludo, in an interview with Arise TV, claimed that criminals, who have hijacked the Biafran cause, would not listen to Kanu if he were freed, and that they were using his name for organized crime in the region.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement released on Monday, IPOB spokesman Emma Powerful responded, asserting that no one would use Kanu’s name to commit crimes if he were released. Powerful accused Soludo of siding with politicians opposed to Kanu’s release, a stance that contradicts the governor’s past calls for the separatist leader’s freedom.

The statement read, “It has come to our attention that Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo recently suggested that the release of our leader, Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, ‘may not’ end insecurity in the South-East. With this, the governor seems to be aligning with those politicians against our leader’s release, which contradicts his previous position on the matter.”

Powerful questioned the logic of Soludo’s statement, arguing that if insecurity was being caused by those using Kanu’s name, releasing him would strip these criminals of any legitimacy and make it harder for them to operate. He also criticized Soludo for deviating from his earlier stance and sounding like a spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, which he accused of targeting innocent Igbo people.

The IPOB spokesman pointed out that Soludo, during his time in Abuja, was unable to fully understand the extent of the terror inflicted on Igboland by killer herdsmen and the efforts of IPOB and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) to address the situation.

He warned against dragging the state into fresh tension, accusing the state government of attempting to revive old allegations for political advantage.

Adewara said the PDP would not remain silent while what he called “political narratives” are used to influence public perception around a tragic incident that claimed multiple lives in Offa in 2018.

He also urged residents, especially affected families, not to allow their pain to be used for political gains, insisting it is unjust to associate Saraki with the crime.

The party further alleged that the move is aimed at distracting attention from governance challenges in the state.
