In a post on X, Ezekwesili questioned why government officials fail to recognize how their consistent leadership failures have turned otherwise peaceful charity events into deadly situations. She pointed out that the well-off in society seem oblivious to the fact that it is the generosity of individuals and organizations—both locally and abroad—that is currently sustaining the poor.
Ezekwesili’s message emphasized the disconnect between public officials and the struggles of everyday Nigerians. She described how these leaders, living in luxury, fail to grasp the desperation that drives people to risk their lives for basic necessities, such as a loaf of bread. She also highlighted how the increase in need has overwhelmed humanitarian efforts, leading to tragic outcomes at charity events that once posed no risk.
She lamented the lack of humility and empathy among public officials and called for an end to the blame being placed on those attempting to alleviate the suffering caused by governmental failures.
