Governor Monday Okpebholo had initially proposed a budget of N605 billion on December 10, 2024. However, the Assembly raised the figure by over N71 billion, with a focus on enhancing food production in Edo State.
Agbebaku highlighted the critical need for food security in the state, noting the national food production shortfall and rising food prices. He explained that the additional funding would bolster agricultural efforts in the state, aiming for food sufficiency.
The Governor supported the decision, emphasizing the N70 billion allocation to agriculture, which aligns with his administration’s commitment to addressing food insecurity. He also revealed plans for large-scale mechanized farming in 2025 to ensure Edo State’s food self-sufficiency and to eventually export produce to neighboring states.
