Ogun State Rolls Out Major Security Operation Ahead Of Christmas And New Year Celebrations

The Ogun State Police Command has deployed 7,777 officers across the state to enhance security during the Christmas and New Year holidays, with a focus on safeguarding people and property. The operation is led by the State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, who is heading a specialized task force. In response to the increased risk of crime during the festive period, additional security measures have been put in place, including more checkpoints and increased patrols.

Both uniformed and plainclothes officers will be strategically positioned at key locations, such as places of worship, parks, government buildings, banks, and diplomatic residences, to prevent criminal activity and reassure the public. High-risk areas, including Long Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and several locations in Abeokuta, will be closely monitored by armored patrol units.

Specialized units, such as SWAT, Anti-Cultism, and Anti-Kidnapping, will conduct patrols around educational institutions. Authorities are also urging drivers to exercise caution and patience at roadblocks, which are set up for public safety. The police are working closely with other security agencies to ensure a comprehensive strategy for maintaining peace and order during the holidays. He also approved an amendment extending the lifespan of the 2025 budget from March 31 to June 30, 2026, to ensure completion of ongoing capital projects nationwide.

Under the 2026 fiscal plan, ₦4.799 trillion is set aside for statutory transfers, ₦15.8 trillion for debt servicing, ₦15.4 trillion for recurrent spending, while ₦32.2 trillion goes to capital projects—about half of the total budget.
