The operation is led by the State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, who is heading a specialized task force. In response to the increased risk of crime during the festive period, additional security measures have been put in place, including more checkpoints and increased patrols.
Both uniformed and plainclothes officers will be strategically positioned at key locations, such as places of worship, parks, government buildings, banks, and diplomatic residences, to prevent criminal activity and reassure the public. High-risk areas, including Long Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and several locations in Abeokuta, will be closely monitored by armored patrol units.
Specialized units, such as SWAT, Anti-Cultism, and Anti-Kidnapping, will conduct patrols around educational institutions. The police have vowed to adopt a zero-tolerance approach to any criminal activities that could disrupt the holiday season and warned potential offenders of severe legal consequences.
Authorities are also urging drivers to exercise caution and patience at roadblocks, which are set up for public safety. The police are working closely with other security agencies to ensure a comprehensive strategy for maintaining peace and order during the holidays. The public is encouraged to cooperate with security personnel, who are dedicated to keeping everyone safe during this period.
