Dele Farotimi, the embattled human rights lawyer and activist, has reiterated his commitment to truth and integrity in his advocacy following his release from the Ekiti State Correctional Centre on Tuesday morning. Addressing his supporters, Farotimi said, “In my public advocacy and in my fight against corruption, I have never lied about anyone. If I do not know something, I will admit it.” He stressed that the pursuit of truth remains his primary tool in striving for meaningful change in Nigeria.

The charges against Farotimi stem from claims made in his book, Nigeria and the Criminal Justice System, where he allegedly made defamatory statements about corruption within Nigeria’s judiciary. However, the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) recently dismissed a petition by Emmanuel Chambers, the law firm of Chief Afe Babalola SAN, which sought the revocation of Farotimi’s legal practicing license.

The petition had accused Farotimi of criminal defamation and professional misconduct related to his book. The LPDC, however, ruled that the allegations concerned Farotimi’s role as an author, not his capacity as a legal practitioner.
