Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has stated that the #EndSARS protests were a significant test of his leadership but emphasized that the welfare of citizens must always take precedence.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Recalling the protests, which began in October 2020 following a viral video of a young man allegedly killed by the now-defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Sanwo-Olu described the events as one of the toughest periods of his leadership. The protests initially called for the disbandment of SARS, but later expanded to address broader concerns such as poor governance and unemployment, attracting widespread attention both locally and internationally.

During a discussion in Ikeja with 30 fellows of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the challenges faced during the protests, particularly the violent response by security forces that resulted in numerous casualties. He emphasized the importance of overcoming difficult moments and focusing on creating positive outcomes for the people of Lagos.

He said, “One of my toughest moments as a leader was during the EndSARS protest. We’ve been tested as a government, but we must continue to prioritize the needs of Lagosians. No bad news lasts forever. We must work hard to create good news and ensure people hear it.”

Sanwo-Olu also paid tribute to the late Alhaji Lateef Jakande, the former Lagos governor, urging the academy fellows to follow his example of exemplary leadership. He added, “I know your generation may not know who Alhaji Lateef Jakande was, but he epitomized leadership, and that is why we still talk about him today.
