A communiqué issued following a high-level meeting in Abuja, which was attended by two former Senate Presidents, two former presidential candidates, ex-senators, a current member of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), ex-ministers, four former governors, and the region’s current governor, outlined their position on the matter.

The communiqué highlighted that strategic efforts are already underway to rally support from party leaders across the northern region to ensure that the next national chairman is a candidate from the North-Central Zone.

Prominent figures at the meeting included David Ombugadu, a former House of Representatives member from Nasarawa State, and Senator Gabriel Suswam, a key supporter of Atiku Abubakar. Both had previously shown interest in the PDP National Chairmanship role.

The key resolutions from the meeting included a reaffirmation of the PDP constitution, which provides for the replacement of vacant party offices through appointments from the relevant zone. The North-Central stakeholders called for the chairmanship position to be returned to their region to ensure continued cohesion and restore confidence within the party. The meeting concluded with a commitment to build consensus around the region’s candidacy.

Notable attendees included Plateau State Governor Caleb Muftwang, former Senate Presidents David Mark and Bukola Saraki, and several ex-governors, among others.
