ICPC Cautions Lawyers On Submitting Irrelevant Petitions Against Judges And Anti-Corruption Personnel
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has urged lawyers to cease filing frivolous petitions against judges and officials of anti-corruption agencies.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
ICPC Chairman, Musa Aliyu, made the appeal during a courtesy visit from the National Litigation Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Abuja. He stated that baseless petitions against judges and officers demotivate those committed to fighting corruption.
Aliyu emphasized that submitting unjustified complaints against the commission’s officers and judges was improper, as they all work together in the anti-corruption fight. He called for professional measures to address conflicts that may arise between lawyers and anti-corruption officers during investigations or court proceedings.
He also assured the NBA that the ICPC ensures lawyers’ rights are protected, as well as the rights of officers performing their duties, and strives to safeguard the rights of both suspects and their legal representatives.
Earlier, Vincent Otaokpokpu, Chairman of the NBA committee, noted that the committee’s purpose was to brief the ICPC about their responsibilities and safeguard the rights of lawyers in the course of their work.
