Governor Okpebholo Distributes Books Donated By Tinubu After Obaseki’s Refusal
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has accused his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki, of withholding books and educational materials donated to schoolchildren in the state. The Governor alleged that Obaseki failed to distribute the books, which were donated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to mark his first year in office.
Okpebholo criticized Obaseki’s actions, calling them “wicked.” He said, “These books you see here were donated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the use of Edo children, but Obaseki refused to distribute them simply because the President’s image is on the cover.”
He thanked President Tinubu for the donation and condemned Obaseki’s refusal to distribute the materials. “This warehouse is filled with books donated by the President, yet out of spite, Obaseki kept them from the children. Today, we are distributing these books to our children.”
He went on to argue that Obaseki’s refusal to distribute the books was wrong, claiming that it harmed the children’s education. “Obaseki claimed to have developed the education system with Edobest, but today’s reality shows that this is not the best for our children. By withholding these books, he denied Edo children a valuable resource provided by President Tinubu.”

The Allegation: The survivor, Malam Babawo Tudun Nasera—whose 17-year-old brother Salim was among the deceased—stated in a video that authorities wanted the miners to halt operations, but they continued working based on instructions allegedly given by Babangida.

The Arrest and Detention: Nasera explained that the miners went to the site to earn a living to feed their families before NSCDC personnel arrested them and held them in custody for three days, allegedly refusing release efforts.
