Regionalism And Renaming Nigeria: Ethnic Groups Propose Restructuring Solutions At Kaduna Symposium

Under the Rebirth Group (TRG), these organizations also recommended renaming the country to “United Regions of Nigeria” (URN) as part of a broader restructuring plan.
This proposal emerged from a symposium in Kaduna titled “Envisioning Nigeria’s Future: Addressing the National Question.” The groups called for the restructuring of Nigeria into regions to improve governance and ensure more equitable resource distribution. They emphasized that each region should be granted greater autonomy and be responsible for its own affairs, with the central government focusing only on issues beyond the capacity of the federating units.
The communique, signed by Comrade Jare Ajayi, Mr. Olaolu Abogunloko, and Mr. DIY Nweze, stressed that regional restructuring should not abolish current states but instead enable them to form federating units under the new name, United Regions of Nigeria (URN), or another suitable title. Each region would have its own constitution, ensuring self-determination.
The forum also advocated for a new revenue-sharing formula, with 70% of resource proceeds going to the communities, states, and local governments from which they originate, and the remaining 30% allocated to the central government.
The symposium also called for efforts to heal national divisions, proposing the establishment of a Truth, Justice, and Reconciliation Commission and advocating for the inclusion of traditional rulers in the country’s constitutional roles.
Organisations participating in the event included Ohaneze Ndigbo, Afenifere, Arewa Youths Consultative Forum, Middle Belt Forum, and others.

She concluded her farewell message with deep appreciation, stating that she steps away from international duty carrying 86 total appearances, zero regrets, and boundless gratitude for her teammates, fans, and the nation.
Joining the global wave of recognition, CAF honored her monumental impact on African women’s football via social media, writing:
