NCAA Sets Sights On Improving Travel Experience During Festive Season With Consumer Rights Awareness

The initiative is designed to close the gap between passengers and airlines while ensuring compliance with aviation regulations.
Chris Najomo, NCAA’s Director General, made the statement during a press briefing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja, stressing the importance of educating passengers about their rights and obligations.
“This campaign aims to inform passengers of their rights and obligations while ensuring airlines fulfill their duties. It’s about fair treatment for both parties, not always favoring one over the other,” Najomo said.
Addressing common issues such as flight delays, Najomo pointed out that after a 2-hour delay, airlines are required to provide refreshments, and passengers are entitled to refunds, either in cash or online, within two weeks. He also noted that after a 4-hour delay, airlines must offer hotel accommodation for overnight delays, urging airlines to communicate delays promptly to passengers through SMS or other channels to help them adjust their plans.
“No airline wants to delay a flight intentionally. While external factors can contribute to delays, effective communication can alleviate frustration,” Najomo added.
The NCAA’s campaign, which has already begun at major airports such as Port Harcourt, will expand nationwide to raise public awareness and ensure a better travel experience, especially during the festive season, with the addition of several new aircraft to airlines’ fleets.
