In addition to the revenue, the command also intercepted a range of illicit goods, including 250 live turtles, 23 walkie-talkies, 175 military helmets, and 50 drones, which were allegedly being smuggled into the country by criminal groups.

Awe noted that the N143.2 billion revenue surpassed the N74.4 billion collected during the same period in 2023 by N69.92 billion. He credited the improved performance to better trade facilitation, greater compliance from stakeholders, and strengthened law enforcement efforts.

To enhance revenue collection, combat smuggling, and facilitate legitimate trade, the command implemented measures such as streamlined clearance procedures, enhanced cargo inspections, and more effective intelligence gathering.

The NCS also made significant strides in tackling illegal trade, seizing goods with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N3.322 billion between July and October 2024.

Awe further explained that the seized military hardware, imported from Turkey by a criminal gang, was brought into the country without the required end-user certificate. One suspect was arrested in Turkey at the request of the Comptroller General of Customs, Wale Adeniyi, and has since been charged in court. Efforts to apprehend other members of the gang are ongoing.
