Bwala’s Appointment Sparks Controversy Among Tinubu Supporters

Published

on

Jesutega Onokpasa, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on President Bola Tinubu to revoke the appointment of Daniel Bwala, a former campaign director for Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Naija News, Bwala, recently named Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, was redesignated on Monday night as Special Adviser on Policy Communication.

Speaking on Arise TV, Onokpasa criticized the decision, describing it as a betrayal of Tinubu’s supporters and a potential threat to his re-election prospects in 2027.

Onokpasa argued that appointing someone who had openly criticized Tinubu in the past, including calling him a “drug baron” without evidence, was a mistake. He added that such a move disrespected loyal APC members and could undermine Tinubu’s administration.

“The President’s decision to appoint Bwala is not strategic, as some claim—it’s outright foolishness,” Onokpasa said. “We won the 2023 election with the narrowest margin since 1999, securing less than 40% of the votes. How does appointing someone who campaigned against you strengthen your position? This is a slap in the face for those of us who stood by Tinubu.”

He further stated, “I am not seeking anything from Tinubu; I supported him because I believe in him. But this appointment feels like a betrayal. Bwala failed Atiku in 2023, and he will do the same to Tinubu in 2027 if this continues. The President must respect the APC and reverse this decision.”

Onokpasa emphasized that while Tinubu has the right to make appointments, supporters also have the right to hold him accountable, warning that this issue could erode trust within the party.
