FG Stresses The Importance Of Investing In Youth For National Prosperity – Shettima
The federal government has emphasized that no nation can achieve prosperity without prioritizing investment in its youth. Shettima made this assertion on Thursday at the 2024 Youth Legacy Conference, held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, under the theme “Shaping Africa’s Future with AfCFTA and Agenda 2063.”
He highlighted the importance of uniting efforts to bridge generational gaps, emphasizing that the youth play a crucial role in shaping both Nigeria’s and Africa’s future. Represented by Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Shettima affirmed that the youth are not only the leaders of tomorrow but also the driving force of today.
“There is no nation that can prosper without investing in its youth. President Tinubu is dedicated to ensuring that the youth are active participants in our national progress,” he said.
Shettima further noted that the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and Agenda 2063 offer significant opportunities for young Nigerians to become innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders. He described AfCFTA as a platform for connecting and empowering the youth, enabling them to lead Africa toward a new era of prosperity.
Speaking on the newly launched Ubuntu Trade App, Shettima celebrated it as a symbol of the innovative spirit of Nigeria’s youth. He acknowledged their contributions to various sectors, including agriculture and technology, noting that young Nigerians are central to the country’s rise in these fields.
The Vice President reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to including the youth in governance and key sectors, stating, “This government sees youth engagement as vital. We aim to combine fresh ideas with experienced leadership to strengthen the nation, shaping a future we will all be proud of.”
In a goodwill message, U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard M. Mills, urged the establishment of a free trade area network to foster connections and ideas across Africa. Represented by Deputy Chief of Mission David J. Greene, Mills commended the Vice President’s role in the success of the event and emphasized the program’s contribution to leadership development and economic growth across Africa.
