Tinubu Acts To Resolve Crisis At Nnamdi Azikiwe University: VC, Registrar, And Council Sacked
President Bola Tinubu has relieved Professor Bernard Ifeanyi Odoh of his duties as Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State. In a statement released on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, the actions followed concerns about the appointment of an unqualified Vice-Chancellor and the council’s failure to follow proper procedures.
The statement outlined that President Tinubu took the decision after receiving reports of violations in the university’s selection process, including the appointment of an underqualified candidate without adhering to due process.
Additionally, the President approved the dismissal of Engr. Ohieku Muhammed Salami as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences in Otukpo, Benue State. Salami was accused of suspending the Vice-Chancellor without following established protocols and ignoring the Ministry of Education’s directives.
The President emphasized the importance of university councils adhering to governance laws to ensure the effective management of higher education institutions. He also warned against actions that could disrupt university operations, as his administration remains focused on improving education standards in the country.

In his inaugural address, Aina acknowledged the foundation laid by his predecessor—who is widely credited with modernizing the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)—and vowed to expand on those achievements.
