Nigerian Troops Rescue 58 Kidnapped Victims, CDS Vows To Punish Terrorists

Speaking in Abuja on Saturday, Musa made the remarks after receiving 58 kidnapped victims who had been rescued by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu. The CDS vowed that those sabotaging the fight against terrorism would not succeed in their efforts.
Musa expressed his concern over the victims, stating, “Just look at these women, children, both boys and girls, and the youngest of them all. The question must be asked: why would anyone kidnap such innocent people? These individuals are barely surviving.”
He clarified that contrary to popular belief, not all those involved in banditry and terrorism joined willingly. Some were forcibly conscripted into the criminal activities.
The Defence Chief assured the public that the military is actively pursuing the perpetrators. He emphasized that justice would be served for those who have taken innocent lives and violated the freedom of others. “For the blood they’ve spilled and the freedoms they’ve robbed, security personnel will make sure they face the full weight of the law,” he declared.
Musa also noted that no ransom was paid for the release of the victims, and urged Nigerians to continue supporting the security agencies in the ongoing battle against insecurity. “This operation was a collective effort, and we were able to secure these victims through strategic, non-violent methods. No money was exchanged for their release,” he added.
The National Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Center, Major General Adamu Laka, explained that initial investigations revealed that the victims had been abducted by armed bandits led by a notorious terrorist known as Janbros. During the kidnapping, the victims were forced to trek for hundreds of kilometers to the remote Birnin Gwari forest.
Laka further explained that the government had provided the necessary support to ensure the victims’ stabilization, before being handed over to the NSA for rehabilitation and medical care. Six of the rescued victims required hospitalization but have since recovered and were reunited with their families.
Sani Limankila, the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Kaduna State, urged all Nigerians to join forces with the security agencies to put an end to the widespread issue of kidnapping.
The victims, who were abducted from their homes and farmlands in Gayam, Sabon Layi, and Kwaga villages in the Dan Musa Local Government Area of Katsina State, were rescued on November 14 by troops from the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army. The group included 35 males and 23 females.
