Edo Governor: My Election Success Was An Act Of God, Not Magic

Speaking on Wednesday night in Benin City, Okpebholo expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he received from the electorate, emphasizing that it was a clear sign of God’s intervention in what was a fiercely contested race, with challengers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP).
During a Thanksgiving Service following his swearing-in at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, the governor urged Nigerians to always do their best and act rightly, but to also place their full trust in God.
In a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, sent to DAILY POST on Thursday, Okpebholo also recounted a peculiar event before his victory, recalling that he found a dead bat on his bed just days before being declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on September 21.
Reflecting on the experience, Okpebholo said: “While I was praising God, my detractors were focused on their campaigns through television and social media. But I trusted in God, and that’s where I took the battle. A few days before the election, they called me crazy for gathering people to pray. But I listened to God’s voice, and I won.
“On Sunday morning after the election, I entered my room and found a dead bat on my bed, without any effort on my part. It was God’s intervention that delivered me. I thank God for the men of faith who stood with me and for all who believed that with God, all things are possible.”
The governor also clarified that he did not seek the help of any native doctors, prophets, or spiritual mediums during his campaign.

The exam, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), will run from April 16 to April 22 in multiple daily sessions.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, urged examination officials to remain highly committed and professional, noting that the success of the exercise depends largely on their dedication.
He gave the charge during a virtual final briefing for technical officers ahead of the examination, where he also praised staff, ad hoc personnel, service providers, and technical advisers for their roles in the successful conduct of the mock exam.
Oloyede said many of the issues recorded during the mock exercise were due to poor assessment of centres by some technical officials.
He further stated that incentive packages would be awarded to teams that perform exceptionally, particularly in handling exam materials and submitting timely reports.
Reiterating JAMB’s zero-tolerance stance on malpractice, he warned candidates against bringing prohibited items into examination halls.
He also disclosed that biometric verification and real-time monitoring systems have been deployed to protect the integrity of the exercise.
Candidates whose biometrics cannot be verified, he added, will be rescheduled to write the exam at approved centres.
Meanwhile, a NAN correspondent monitoring proceedings at Aduvie International School, Jahi, reported that the first session scheduled for 8:30 a.m. began slightly behind schedule at about 8:40 a.m.
