Tinubu Urged To Honor Late COAS Lagbaja By Strengthening Anti-Insurgency Efforts

Amitolu Shittu, the inaugural Field Commander of Osun Amotekun, gave this counsel, urging Tinubu to commit to eradicating banditry and similar threats to national security as a tribute to Lagbaja’s dedication to the nation.
In a statement on Friday, Shittu also extended his condolences to the Lagbaja family, the Ilobu community, and Osun State, underscoring the late COAS’s contributions to Nigeria’s safety. He emphasized the importance of winning the fight against terrorism to secure a stable future for the country, stressing that Tinubu should use his leadership to achieve lasting peace and stability.
“It is our shared duty to put our lives on the line for our country’s progress. We have no other nation to call home. The fight against terrorism is one Nigeria must win. President Tinubu should be encouraged; together, we can build a stronger nation,” Shittu stated.
He continued, “Lagbaja was an exceptional officer, fully committed to his country and his troops. His passing should not dampen the morale of the Nigerian Army. The best tribute to his legacy would be to sustain and strengthen efforts to eliminate criminality in Nigeria.”
Shittu added that the Army should work to keep the nation safe and secure for economic growth. “May God grant eternal peace to our late Army Chief. My heartfelt condolences to his family, the Ilobu community, Osun State, President Tinubu, the Nigerian Army, and all those touched by his passing. May God give us the strength to bear this great loss.”
Meanwhile, the Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olatoye Olaniyan, has requested that President Tinubu allow the body of Lt. Gen. Lagbaja to be buried according to Islamic customs in Ilobu. Speaking through his spokesperson, Olufemi Salako, the monarch expressed that Lagbaja’s death was a profound loss for both Ilobu and Nigeria.
“I appeal to President Tinubu and the military to release Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja’s body so he may be buried in line with Islamic rites in his hometown, Ilobu,” Oba Olaniyan stated, urging the Federal Government to avoid holding the burial in Abuja.
