Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu presided over the inauguration on Tuesday, marking a significant step in the state’s efforts to improve urban transportation.
The Red Line, spanning 27 kilometers, runs from Agbado to Oyingbo, with eight stations strategically located along the route, including Yaba, Mushin, and Ikeja. The new rail service is projected to transport around 500,000 passengers daily, providing a viable alternative to road traffic.
Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the government’s commitment to creating a seamlessly connected city and noted that this is the second rail system to become operational in Lagos within two years. Daily operations will commence with departures from Agbado at 6:00 AM, followed by another train from Iju Station at 7:30 AM. Passengers will need their Cowry Card to board the train.
The Red Line project, initially inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu in February, is part of ongoing efforts to address the transportation challenges in the bustling metropolis.
