Speaking at the passing out parade held at the Command Headquarters in Abuja, Commandant Dr. Olusola Odumosu urged the graduates to build on the progress made over the past year as they are deployed to key locations across the city.

The Commandant also revealed that over 120 suspected vandals were arrested within the FCT over the past year for infrastructure theft and vandalism, with several convictions successfully secured.

Odumosu who described the training of the 2024 Batch A Basic Arms Training for the personnel as historic and of global standards, urged the personnel to discharge their duties in line with rules of engagement and high sense of professionalism.

Odumosu commended the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike and the Commandant-General of the Corps, Dr Ahmed Audi for their support, saying those who received the training programme would be deployed to rid the FCT of the menace of “one chance ” taxi drivers, vandals and other criminals.

Odumosu said :”Today, we are presenting to you officers who have been retrained for weapons handling by the Training Department of the Command. I am proud to say here that this Command can boast of having seasoned instructors who can hold their own any day, any time.

“In line with the core mandates of the NSCDC which include, but not limited to the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure and the protection of lives and property in general, it becomes imperative to train and retrain our personnel to be able to stand up to emerging security challenges bedeviling our dear country.

“Consequently, a total of 135 personnel were retrained and equipped with the knowledge and skills in weapon handling through months of rigorous regimentation defined by global standards.

” These ones are ready to be engaged.

This is a worthy step taken to curb the challenges of vandalism and other vices hampering the peace and development of the Federal Capital Territory in particular, and the Nation as a whole.

“With this new set of trainees, the Command is better positioned to surpass our achievements so far in the fight against vandalism and the protection of lives and property.

“Let me congratulate the personnel passing out today. That you are standing here today strong and gallant despite the tough exercise, is a sign that FCT can trust you, Nigeria can rely on you for protection. Remember, to whom much is given, much is expected.

“In the discharge of your duties, always remember the rules of engagement, be professional in handling your riffles, protect yourself, protect your riffle, protect lives and property.”

Preliminary investigation suggests the military gear was destined for the South-East region of Nigeria. Investigators are working to identify the source, owner, and intended recipients of the goods. They are also examining the level of involvement of the suspects and tracking potential co-conspirators.

While CP Tijani assured Lagos residents that the discovery poses no immediate security threat to the state as the items were being moved elsewhere, he expressed concern regarding the recovery due to historical connections between criminal organizations and the use of military-style uniforms.
