Authorities in Lagos have summoned three police officers for questioning following allegations of extorting one million naira from corps members.
The claims emerged after videos showing the interaction between the corps members and the officers circulated widely on social media late Friday.
Nevo News gathered that the incident reportedly took place in the Surulere area of Lagos.
Social media user Oluyemi Fasipe, who shared the footage, alleged that the officers had threatened the corps members with firearms and subsequently detained them at the Kafaru Oluwole Tinubu House Area C Police Command.
Fasipe stated, “Dear @BenHundeyin, Your officers today in Surulere extorted 1 million naira from three corps members.
“They were threatened with firearms, kidnapped, and taken to the KAFARU OLUWOLE TINUBU HOUSE AREA C POLICE COMMAND of the @LagosPoliceNG where they were robbed.
“Their offence was the absence of a physical copy of a driver’s license. This is evil!”
In the videos, police officers were seen checking the documentation of the vehicle’s occupants, with the situation escalating as more officers arrived at the scene.
One officer was recorded entering the vehicle and instructing the corps members to stop filming and refrain from contacting anyone.
Responding to the allegations, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the officers involved have been summoned for investigation.
He stated on X, “The men have been summoned and their trial has commenced.
“We urge the complainants to visit the Complaint Response Unit at the State Headquarters to testify at the ongoing trial.”
