Details of the Attack
According to ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the police spokesperson, the attack occurred early Thursday and left a security guard injured. Reports indicate that four women, including the wife of a hospital staff member, were abducted during the incident. While the police have acknowledged the attack, they have not yet confirmed the specifics, stating that investigations are ongoing.
The Assault Unfolds
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the assault took place around 10:45 AM when three unarmed bandits entered the hospital. Confronted by the security guard, the situation escalated quickly. The bandits turned violent, shooting the guard and abducting four women before fleeing the scene. A source close to the situation revealed that the attackers managed to enter the hospital after some armed accomplices jumped over the wall fence.
The security guard was shot in the stomach during the confrontation, leading many to believe he had succumbed to his injuries. Fortunately, he received first aid and was transported to a hospital in Katsina for treatment.
Targeting Hospital Staff
The primary target of the attackers was Mustapha Hamza, a casual staff member at the hospital. However, he narrowly escaped, while his wife, who had accompanied him to the hospital, was taken hostage. Hamza, a nurse anesthetist, was called in to assist with a surgical procedure when the attack occurred. His wife, uncomfortable staying alone at home, followed him to work, ultimately becoming a victim of the attack.
A Shift in Security Dynamics
Historically, Kurfi was known for its fortified defenses, with vigilant community members deterring bandit incursions. However, the recent collapse of local vigilante efforts, attributed to political discord among influential residents, has left the area vulnerable. The chairman of Kurfi Council, Mannir Shehu Wurma, confirmed the attack and assured residents that the council is actively addressing the situation.

Case Background and Prosecution
The convicts were apprehended following a violent cult clash at the Ikenne Town Hall on October 23, 2023, which severely disrupted public peace and local activities.
Prosecuting officer ASP Olaide Rawlings established during the trial that Okusanya belonged to the Eiye Confraternity, while Gafar was affiliated with the Alora Confraternity, alongside other accomplices currently at large. Their actions violated several provisions of the Prohibition of Forcible Entry and Occupation of Landed Properties, Armed Robbery, Cultism, Kidnapping and Other Anti-Violent and Related Offences Law of Ogun State, 2016.
Finding the prosecution’s evidence credible and compelling beyond a reasonable doubt, Magistrate Oke delivered the sentence to serve as a strict deterrent against unlawful secret societies and violent disturbances in the state.

Following an international arrest warrant issued on June 22, 2026, by the Court of Appeal in N’Djamena for Abdoulaye and her accomplice Fatime Senoussi Mouktar—alongside links to narcotics trafficking—the suspect fled to Nigeria. Intelligence-led operations tracked her down to Railway Quarters in Nasarawa Local Government Area, Kano State, where she was arrested on August 5, 2026. Guilty Plea & Sentencing: Justice Akintayo Aluko handed down the sentence on Thursday after Thaoban pleaded guilty to a two-count EFCC charge, alongside an alternative fine option of ₦1.8 million.
