In a statement issued on Thursday, the APC New Media Directorate highlighted the significance of this ban, noting that Governor Obaseki had recruited over 11,000 personnel under the ESN to allegedly disrupt the electoral process. The party said it had earlier raised concerns over the activities of the ESN, which it described as a destabilizing force. The Directorate expressed satisfaction with the IGP’s response, viewing it as a step toward ensuring a peaceful and credible election.
In addition to the ban on the ESN, the APC also commended the deployment of 35,000 police officers across Edo State to maintain law and order during the election. According to the party, this extensive security arrangement will allow Edo voters to exercise their democratic rights without fear of violence or harassment.
The APC emphasized that the IGP’s actions send a clear message about the importance of upholding democracy and preventing the use of state-backed security outfits to manipulate electoral outcomes. The Directorate stated that the people of Edo now have the confidence to participate in the elections, knowing that their safety is being prioritized by the police.
The party concluded by reiterating its confidence in the IGP’s leadership and expressing hope for a free and fair election in the state.
