Ifeakandu, from Okofia village, expressed joy after winning the competition and shared his plans to reinvest the prize money into his farm for a larger yield next year.

He stated, “This prize is a great motivation to further invest in agriculture. I will expand my farming efforts and, by God’s grace, return next year with an even bigger harvest to show my gratitude.”

Ken Echendu, President General of the Obeledu Progress Union, explained that the agricultural showcase was integrated into the festival to inspire more people to pursue farming. He also addressed the misconception that Anaocha’s soil is infertile, emphasizing the festival’s role in challenging that belief.

Echendu called on the people of Obeledu to continue supporting his administration, promising a bright future for the community.

His Royal Highness, Igwe AC Oragwam, Ezeoranyelu III, performed the traditional yam cutting to launch the event and expressed gratitude to God for the bountiful harvest. He urged the community to maintain peace, which he identified as key to growth and development.

Igwe Oragwam fondly recalled that the yam competition, now recognized internationally, originated in Obeledu.

Ikechukwu Okafor, Secretary of the Obeledu Media Department, attributed the festival’s success to the unity among the people of Obeledu, noting the increased participation in this year’s event.

He praised the current Executive Council for its commitment to leading the community to greater achievements and encouraged continued support for the town’s traditional ruler and leadership.

Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr. Collins Nwabuwanne, congratulated the Obeledu community on the successful festival. He noted his regular attendance at new yam festivals across the state, commending Obeledu for embracing Governor Soludo’s agricultural revolution and pledging further government support to enhance their farming efforts.

Nwabuwanne encouraged other communities in Anambra State to follow Obeledu’s example.
