Ugandan Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei Dies After Horrific Attack by Boyfriend in Kenya....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ugandan Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei has tragically passed away in Kenya, just four days after being set on fire by her boyfriend. The Uganda Olympic Committee confirmed the devastating news on Thursday, with its president, Donald Rukare, calling the incident a “cowardly and senseless act.”

The 33-year-old marathon runner had recently competed in the Paris Olympics, where she finished 44th. On Sunday, Cheptegei’s partner, identified as Dickson Ndiema Marangach, allegedly doused her with petrol and set her alight at her home in Endebess, Trans-Nzoia County, Kenya. She suffered burns to 80% of her body and had been in critical condition at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) before succumbing to her injuries.

The attack reportedly took place in front of one of Cheptegei’s daughters, who described the horrifying scene, recounting how her mother’s partner prevented her from helping. “He kicked me while I tried to run to the rescue of my mother,” she told The Standard newspaper. Despite a neighbor’s attempt to extinguish the flames, the efforts were unsuccessful.

Cheptegei’s passing has reignited calls for action against domestic violence, with the Uganda Athletics Federation expressing deep sorrow and condemning the act. “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our athlete, Rebecca Cheptegei, who tragically fell victim to domestic violence. As a federation, we condemn such acts and call for justice,” the statement read.

This tragic event follows a series of violent incidents targeting women in Kenya’s athletic community. In 2021, record-breaking runner Agnes Tirop was found stabbed to death at her home, while Kenyan-born athlete Damaris Mutua was found dead in 2022. Both cases have brought national attention to the growing issue of domestic violence.

According to recent data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, 34% of women in the country have experienced physical violence since the age of 15, highlighting the ongoing struggle to address violence against women in Kenya.

The Ugandan athletics community, along with Cheptegei’s supporters, is now calling for justice for the Olympian, whose promising life and career were cut short by a horrific act of violence. May her soul rest in peace.
