Southern China and Vietnam Brace for Super Typhoon Yagi: Schools Closed, Flights Canceled....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Southern China has taken precautionary measures as tropical storm Yagi, now a super typhoon, approaches the holiday island of Hainan. The storm, which has already wreaked havoc in the Philippines, triggered school closures, flight cancellations, and heightened emergency responses.
Yagi intensified into a super typhoon after moving west across the South China Sea, with winds reaching up to 209 kilometers (130 miles) per hour, according to China’s Xinhua news agency. The storm is expected to make landfall on Friday afternoon, targeting Hainan or neighboring Guangdong.
Hainan’s provincial disaster management authority raised the emergency response to the highest level, effective from Thursday morning. In Haikou, the capital of Hainan, schools, local transport, and work services were suspended from Thursday noon to prepare for the storm’s impact.
Though Hong Kong is expected to avoid a direct hit, the Hong Kong Observatory has issued the city’s third-highest typhoon warning. The warning, set for 6:20 pm local time, has led to disruptions in public transport, with kindergartens and special schools suspending classes. Hong Kong Express rescheduled six flights, while Greater Bay Airlines canceled four flights and rescheduled two others due to the severe weather.
Yagi has already left a trail of destruction in the Philippines, causing floods and landslides that have claimed at least 13 lives on the main island of Luzon.
After passing through southern China, Yagi is expected to head toward Vietnam. The Vietnamese government has issued a storm warning, with more than 2,700 military personnel mobilized for storm response. Coastal provinces plan to enforce a sailing ban on Friday, and rescue vehicles are on standby in the country’s mountainous regions, as authorities prepare for potential flooding and landslides.

Wike stated that his assessment stems from a personal, close familiarity with Obi’s character and administrative background, rejecting the popular public narrative surrounding the former Anambra State governor.
-
The minister specifically took aim at Obi’s public charity visits and birthday celebrations at Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps and motherless homes, dismissing them as calculated public relations stunts designed to win sentimental political support.
-
Shifting to economic matters, Wike defended the current administration’s removal of the fuel subsidy, arguing that true leadership demands the political will to enact tough, necessary reforms rather than yielding to populist sentiment or expecting decades-old problems to vanish overnight.
