According to a press release from the Directorate, reports from Ikpoba-Okha Ward 5 indicate that INEC officials were allegedly involved in distributing voter cards to individuals other than the rightful owners. The APC New Media Directorate claims that when legitimate cardholders arrived to collect their cards, they discovered them missing, sparking concerns about the transparency and integrity of the electoral process.
Further allegations suggest that INEC staff approached party agents from the three major political parties, asking for financial assistance to cover their transportation costs due to inadequate funding from INEC. After receiving ₦90,000 from the parties, the funds were reportedly exhausted, leading to additional corrupt practices. The APC New Media Directorate asserts that a PDP agent, acting covertly, provided extra money to the INEC staff, resulting in the unlawful distribution of voter cards to PDP agents.
The Directorate also directly links Osarodion Ogie, who hails from Ikpoba-Okha, to these alleged manipulations, although they acknowledge that these claims have not yet been independently verified.
In light of these allegations, the APC New Media Directorate is calling on the National Chairman of INEC, the Inspector General of Police, and the Department of State Services (DSS) to immediately investigate the matter. They stress the importance of safeguarding the democratic process in Edo State and ensuring that the elections are free, fair, and transparent.
